Student Profile
The Student Profile contains student record information that doesn’t change on a regular basis including general contact information, identification numbers, mailing addresses, and any custom data fields associated with the Student Profile view you've created in System Administration. Student profile information can be added and updated through the Student Information Import.
PowerFAIDS Student Profile provides:
-
Student Centric Data: Because PowerFAIDS is student centric the student profile doesn't need to be updated unless there is a change in information, such as a name change or phone number change.
Caution: With name changes, it is important to note that once you update a student's name, that name is what is used by the system regardless of the academic year, payment period, award year, or other time period; therefore, your institution should implement consistent practices for handling name changes, such as leaving a comment indicating the name change and listing the prior name in the event that another office needs the information. Name changes, like changes of other data points across the system, are available in the Timeline for the student record.
-
Student Identification Options: PowerFAIDS requires all student records have either a student ID or a Social Security number (SSN); this means a student can be created without including an SSN as long as their is a unique student ID. Generally, the system will display the student ID to ensure protection of Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Tip: The ability to view PII is determined by a setting on the security group with which your user account is associated. If you can view PII and it is masked (for example, Date of Birth displays as xx-xx-xxxx), then the option to unmask is available from the More Actions menu located at the right end of the blue navigation bar.
-
Customization Opportunities: Custom Data within the student profile allows you to create custom data fields that are part of the overall student record and not tied to any specific year or payment period, allowing you to collect and maintain data that is specific to your institution.
