Modifying the Cost of Attendance on a Student Record

There may be cases in which you'll need to use professional judgment and update a student's cost of attendance on an individual basis. To override system-driven calculations and manually modify the cost of attendance on a student record, complete the following steps:

1. Navigate to Cost of Attendance within the student record.

1. Search for and select the student record to which you want to modify the cost of attendance.
2. Expand the Academic Profile options in the left navigation menu and select Cost of Attendance.

1. Navigate to the academic year or payment period with the cost of attendance you wish to update.

1. Select the appropriate academic year from the Academic Year list.
2. If updating institutional cost of attendance, scroll down to the payment period you wish to update.

1. Make the necessary adjustments to the cost of attendance.

1. Expand the Institutional Category Details of the payment period, or scroll to the Pell Grant Cost of Attendance of the academic year.

   

2. In the Adjustment field, enter the amount you want added to this category's base cost. To enter a negative amount, type the minus sign (-) followed by a number.
3. To add new categories to either cost of attendance, select Add New at the bottom left of the table and repeat the above steps as needed.

1. If needed, select the items to which you want to prevent system-driven updates. Note: This step is for institutional cost of attendance categories only.

1. Open the Shield menu by clicking the shield icon at the top right of the table.

   

2. Select Select Items to choose specific cost of attendance items you want to shield. You can also select Protect All if you want to prevent all items from system-driven calculations.

1. Select the green check mark at the end of the row to save each cost of attendance item.

A success message is displayed in the upper right portion of the page letting you know the student's cost of attendance has been updated.
