Creating and Editing a Requirement

Requirements are a way to track a student's required actions in PowerFAIDS as they relate to their financial aid processing.

To create a requirement, complete the following steps:

  1. Select System Administration in the top navigation bar to open the System Administration menu along the left side of the page.
  2. Expand the Communications options in the left navigation menu and select Requirements.
  1. Select the + icon next to the Requirements header to open the Requirements window.
  2. Set whether your requirement is award year specific. If you specify that it's award year specific, enter the Award Year.

    Caution: Once you have chosen whether a requirement is award year specific or not, you cannot change this setting (or the associated award year) after it's created. However, when copying an existing requirement, you can change the award year associated with the copy if you have requirements that are carried forward year to year.     Tip: Award year specific requirements can be found on the student record within the specified award year. Lifetime requirements exist across all award years within a student's record.

  3. Enter a Requirement Name and Display Name , along with any additional description information. The Requirement Name must be original to the requirement and is only internal facing. The Requirement Name and the Display Name do not need to match.

    Tip: The display name is student facing. It is used in Communications, such as in email notifications sent for outstanding requirements.

  4. If appropriate, select the population for which the requirement applies and what process (if any) it is required for. Select Not Applicable from the Required For list if you want to assign a requirement that should not prevent either process. Requirements with this option selected will not prevent the student's tracking status from moving forward regardless of the requirement status.

    Perhaps you have students in an MBA program who have taken out an exorbitant amount in loans. You might create a requirement to reach out to those students who surpass a certain loan award amount to encourage them to communicate with your office to create a budget. While this requirement would notify your office to reach out to the student, it would not stop the system from creating a package or disbursing aid.

A success message is displayed in the upper right portion of the page letting you know the requirement has been created.

Once created, you'll see the requirement in the Requirements list. Select it from the list to make any necessary edits to the parameters you previously set.
